A F-15E was shot down on Good Friday over Iran during the recent Iran war. The pilot was rescued pretty much immediately. But the second pilot, the Weapons System Officer, was missing. It turns out, the two were trained to separate and move in opposite directions. Now, we learned that the missing officer, with a broken leg, bleeding profusely, climbed seven thousand feet up a cliff to hide and send his encrypted homing signal for rescue. And the first message he sent was “God is Good.” What a hero. What faith and courage.
Behind the enemy line, the U.S. military sent in hundreds of special forces and troops, utilitizing 155 aircrafts and a CIA deception plan in order to rescue one of their own. Along the way, they lost two aircrafts. One of them was worth over one hundred million U.S. dollars. How do you think the missing officer must have felt knowing all of these resources, fellow soldiers risked their lives to come save him.
Grateful, would be what I imagine. Such a miraculous story to unfold on Easter Sunday morning.
Does this remind us of another love story unfolded over two thousand years ago? Jesus gave up His throne in heaven to become one of us, behind the enemy line, to lay down His life for us. Most important of all, more powerful than the U.S. military might, Jesus overcame death to give us life eternal and abundance on earth.
Grateful, is the only word I can come up with.
This Weapons System Officer is so right to say: “God Is Good.”
